My Yahoo Draft

QB1 Matt Hasselbeck
QB2 Jeff Garcia
WR1 Reggie Wayne
WR2 Brandon Marshall
RB1 Clinton Portis
RB2 Ronnie Brown
TE1 Alge Crumpler
W/T1 Dwayne Bowe
RB4 Selvin Young
RB3 DeAngelo Williams
RB5 Felix Jones
WR3 Vincent Jackson
WR5 Isaac Bruce
WR4 Amani Toomer
RB6 Ladell Betts
K Adam Vinatieri
DEF Jacksonville
D Marcus Trufant
D Trent Cole

Pretty happy with it. Some of the worst picks I have ever seen came in this draft but I cannot complain with my results. A great QB, a ton of talet at RB. If Brown stays healthy I stole him late in the draft. Good TE, good DEF and a great kicker. The IDP defenders are as good as they get. I have the most solid WR in the game in Wayne. A total savage with Brandon Marshall. Dwayne Bowe, a very solid 3WR with a ton of upside even beyond last year. A donkey could throw him the ball and he would catch it. He is Kansas City's best player in fantasy football this year. Larry Johnson who? Mark it down now Bowe has more points then Johnson. Vincent Jackson and a solid Toomer all fall behind them, both solid WR's with Jackson with a ton of upside. I love Jackson this year. Chambers, gates and LT open alot of space up for a 1 on 1 Jackson. 84 yards in the last pre season game is a good start. Overall I am very happy with this team and I have no doubt that I can once again make the playoffs and compete for the league title. I have a few surprises up my sleeve as far as the waiver wire goes and I look forward to adding them to the squad very soon.

Update: Ronnie Brown

I already knew this but some people gave up on him already and he is being ignored in drafts. Good to hear he is almost 100 percent and ready to roll for the year. I love the Dolphins, they are my favorite team. Draft him in rounds 4-6 if you can, because Ronnie Brown the former Auburn superstar is ready to run and he is by far Miami's best player.

Kwilli asks

This is my current line-up in a 12-team league. Standard scoring rules w/ bonuses for yardage.

STARTERS:
QB - Matt Hasselbeck
RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
RB - Jamal Lewis
RB - Edgerrin James
WR - Wes Welker
WR - Patrick Crayton
DST - Vikings
K - Josh Brown

BENCH:
RB - Greg Jones
QB - Jake Delhomme
DST - Patriots
K - Rob Bironas
QB - Chad Pennington
WR - Justin Gage
RB - Rudi Johnson

What do you think. Remember, the draft has already occurred, so what's left on the free agent list is slim pickings. How would you improve upon this lineup? Thank you in advance for any advice.

Kwilli
-------------------------...
Kwilli,

Overall I like the team. I would give you a B-. My suggestions would be to trade Rudi Johnson if you can. What RB's are left on the waiver? You are good at QB, decent at RB and solid at kicker and defense. Greg Jones may just get you some TD's but its tought to say with MJD and Fred Taylor still ahead of him. I would suggest grabbing a RB with some upside if there is one still around. You are ok at WR but I would consider this your week point. Welker is good as a 2 and Crayton should do ok considering he will be in single coverage most of the time but Gage is nothing for sure and may only put up minimal numbers. My Suggestions would be to try and move Rudi and drop Chad Pennington to pick up another WR or RB. They main thing for you is to keep an eye on my blog and the stats from the games and try and find some guys who come out of no where that can help your time as the season progresses. If you do that you have a chance as does any team with LT on it. In the last 3 years of my main yahoo draft the person with LT made it to the final game. Whatever you do don't trade him away no matter what comes your way. Good Luck and if you have any more questions just let me know.

My cbssportsline draft

QB 6 (#72) Cutler, Jay (QB DEN)
RB 1 (#1) Tomlinson, LaDainian (RB SD)
RB 4 (#48) Brown, Ronnie (RB MIA)
WR 2 (#24) Owens, Terrell (WR DAL)
WR 3 (#25) Wayne, Reggie (WR IND)
WR 5 (#49) Boldin, Anquan (WR ARI)
TE 10 (#120) Crumpler, Alge (TE TEN)
K 9 (#97) Vinatieri, Adam (K IND)
DST 12 (#144) Eagles (DST PHI)
RS 8 (#96) Williams, DeAngelo (RB CAR)
RS 13 (#145) Johnson, Chris (RB TEN)
RS 7 (#73) Cotchery, Jerricho (WR NYJ)
RS 14 (#168) Branch, Deion (WR SEA)
RS 11 (#121) Smith, L.J. (TE PHI)

I got the 1st pick in this draft. This is for a 12 man league, 5 of the guys did not show and the computer drafted them QB's in the 2nd round so it opened up a slew of talent for me at WR. This may be the most solid team I have ever drafted granted Ronnie Brown looked great last night and got into the end zone. I will have the results of my biggest draft from tonite as soon as it is over. This is my yahoo draft with friends who go back in the day. I cannot wait to see how it turns out but I know I am prepared well for it. There is nothing greater then talking smack in a draft room.

Brian's question asks

How can I improve my fantasy team?

QB- Tony Romo
RB- Steven Jackson
RB- Michael Turner
RB/WR- Earnest Graham
WR- T.J Houshmanzadeh
WR- Calvin Johnson
TE- Donald Lee
K- Stephen Gostkowski
D/ST- Seahawks
--------------------------------------...
Bench:
WR- Greg Jennings, Ted Ginn, Joey Galloway, Robert Meachum
RB- Ricky Williams, Rashard Mendenhall, Chris Johnson

Where do I need to improve, and how should I do it? Who you should I try to acquire? Possible trades? 10 Team League

Brian,

Thanks for your question. Lets go with this, good job at QB, try and find a reliable backup. Grab David Garrard if he is on the wire. You are pretty solid at RB, Jackson should do well, Graham will do well and Turner has a lot of upside but ATL has many problems so you don't want to count on him week in and week out. I would consider putting Jennings in as the flex if Turner fails to produce. Week one is tricky there because GB plays a tough MINN defense at home and ATL plays a pretty bad defense in DET. I still like Jennings though as he loves to find the end zone and the packers are at home. Consider getting what you can for Ricky Williams because Ronnie Brown is looking good and will get most of the carries. Chris Johnson is a great by week fill in and may become more then that as the season progresses. I like the Donald Lee pick but keep your eye out for anybody on the wire to solidify that position. The big question here is will A. Rogers look his way. Your wide outs look good also just watch production and match up's every week and make good decisions based on numbers. Your solid at kicker and you have a good defense. I personally love the team and if you make the right choices each week with your rosters and avoid injuries you have a great shot at the playoffs and if you get lucky maybe the league title. It takes luck to get first but if your in the playoffs you at least have a shot to do it. Make sure you get Jennings in there, he is way to good to leave on the bench. Good Luck on your season!!!

Greg Jennings

Folks, I had him on my team last year, I picked him off the waiver wire. Trust me this guy only knows how to score TD's. He helped carry me to the championship and even with A. Rodgers I expect nothing less from Greg. Draft him and draft him quick, WR's are hard to find this year and he is one of the best. He is a TD machine. This video backs up what im saying here. The GB line is better then advertised in the preseason. They are one of the best in the league. Happy Drafting!

My final CBS mock draft with #9 pick

Tommorrow is my main draft, here is my final mock for that draft.

Pos Round Player
QB 5 (#57) Hasselbeck, Matt (QB SEA)
RB 1 (#9) Barber, Marion (RB DAL)
RB 6 (#64) Brown, Ronnie (RB MIA)
WR 2 (#16) Edwards, Braylon (WR CLE)
WR 3 (#33) Burress, Plaxico (WR NYG)
WR 4 (#40) Welker, Wes (WR NE)
TE 7 (#81) Heap, Todd (TE BAL)
K 11 (#129) Crosby, Mason (K GB)
DST 8 (#88) Chargers (DST SD)
RS 10 (#112) Cutler, Jay (QB DEN)
RS 9 (#105) Stewart, Jonathan (RB CAR)
RS 12 (#136) Perry, Chris (RB CIN)
RS 14 (#160) Walter, Kevin (WR HOU)
RS 13 (#153) Crumpler, Alge (TE TEN)

If my team ends up like this tommorrow I will be pretty happy. I have 2 solid QB's, Good RB's and two with alot of upside, 3 great WR's with a good backup ready for a break out year. (I can surely find some off the waiver to fill my bye weeks and two proven TE's that should produce. I have have a very solid DEF and a kicker who is not only good but that I think will kick alot more this year with Brett Farve now out of the building. I have spent countless hours developing my strategy and I am satisfied with it so far. My CBS draft is tommorrow morning and my main yahoo draft is tommorrow night. I will update you with both of those when they are completed.

Great article on RB'S

Strahan to stay TV

Micheal Strahan announced Tuesday night that he will not be coming out of retirement to help the Giants.  This means N.Y. will have to start without two key players that helped them secure the super bowl trophy last season.  Only time will tell if they can over come it.

Hottie of the week

For a break in our fantasy football world, Enjoy!

Sleeper and Bust of the day

Sleeper
Steve Slaton: Joining a RBC (running back by committee) in Houston, the former Heisman candidate from West Virginia may be the light the Texans need at running back. In front of him is the aging Ahman Green and Chris Brown. Brown has a chance to do ok but he lacks the explosive burst that slaton can bring to the table. This burst may be needed behind an offensive line that is average at best. The slippery Slaton may be just the guy to look for late in the draft that could help you out either as a 3RB or a fill in for a bye week. He is a high risk/high potential player but he may be worth picking up in the very late rounds or off the waiver wire.

Bust
Rudi Johnson: While nobody is expecting to much from Rudi this year, the fact remains he is still the starter in Cincinnati. After 3 consecutive seasons of big numbers, 2007 proved to be a disaster for Johnson . He was forced to fight off injuries and started to show his wear and tear. He finished the season with only 497 yards and 3 TD's. Compare that to the previous 2 seasons where he put up 1458 yards in 05 and 1309 yards in 06 with 12 TD's in each year. Has the time come for Rudi to sit, I say yes. Updated: Johnson looks to be on the trading block, Cinncinnati would like to pick up another WR for him. It looks like Chris Perry will be the starter however I would keep a close eye on this situation and don't count out Kenny Watson.

Other Sleepers
Kenny Watson (CIN) proved last year that given the chance he has the talent and the speed to take over as the starter. If he does, consider him a sleeper pick as he can produce reasonable numbers as a flex or a bye week fill in. I picked him up off the waiver last year and he scored two TD's in one game and helped my team win on a week where I was hurting at RB. I would suggest watching this situation closely and be ready to pull the trigger on Watson if Rudi starts off slow. Also keep an eye on Chris Perry, he has the skills and the Bengals are ready to give him a chance. He is fired up and ready to play and he has been decent in the preseason. Whoever gets the starting spot a few games into the season could be a decent back given the success of the passing game.

I have no doubt that Cromartie will have more interceptions then any other player on this list. He is young and has tons of talent. I had the pleasure of seeing him play since high school and you don't need me to tell you this guy is a special talent. Get him on your team if you can!

Fantasy Q&A

Mitch from Tampa asks,

Should I make Cotchery or Bowe my 3rd WR? Thanks
----------------------------------------------------------------
Mitch,

I would go Cotchery, read my post on this below on him. Bowe as outstanding as he is plays with a team in KC that is struggling and while Bowe will score I like Cotchery to produce more this year. Especially with Farve throwing him the ball. Play around with it depending on the schedule for the week but for week 1 you have to go with Cotchery. They are playing MIA and he should get at least 75 yards and a touchdown. KC has to travel to New England and that may not be pretty.

Keep the questions coming!

Injury Update

- Osi Umenyiora is out for the year with a torn lateral miniscus. This surely moves the giants defense down a notch. The secondary must do its job and hope the rest of the defensive line can get pressure. There are rumors Strahan may come back for a cool 8 million but don't bank on it.

Updated RB Ratings

1. LaDainian Tomlinson - Solid as an oak and still has some years left to dominate

2. Brian Westbrook- He is the best player on his team, he's explosive, if healthy he is fantastic

3. Adrian Peterson - Stay healthy and hes a machine, best runner in years.

4. Joseph Addai - 12 touchdowns last year don't lie and he has great offense around him

5. Marion Barber - If he can keep the goal line touches he will be a top 5 producer in TD's

6. Steven Jackson - If he can get back to the 06 form and get Bulger passing hes set to go

7. Marshawn Lynch - Not sharing his load and he is just starting to show what he can do

8. Frank Gore - He has the potential but can he not fumble and hold off the competition

9. Clinton Portis - His numbers don't lie, still one of the best at putting it in the end zone

10. Larry Johnson - He needs alot of help from Bowe and the line. The talent is there

11. Laurence Maroney - Should do more then last year but a big risk for a 1RB

12. Ronnie Brown - If he is healthy he is one of the best, can his line hold up?

13. Maurice Jones-Drew - Explosive and now he is the man, expect big things this year

14. Ryan Grant - Great line, great WR's. Could be great or could lose out to Brandon Jackson

15. Reggie Bush - He has to find the endzone and get more carries, the talent is there

16. Willie Parker - In 06 he had 13 TD's, in 07 he had 2. Yards are not the problem with him

17. Earnest Graham - He will get at least 8 TD's and should put up solid numbers

18. Jamal Lewis - 1304 yards and 9 TD's last season, good line, good WR's. Solid pick

19. Selvin Young - A lot of potential if he can get the bulk of the carries

20. Michael Turner - He has the talent to do wonders but will his line and offense help him?

21. Brandon Jacobs - He is the goal line back but the giants love to throw TD's

22. Thomas Jones - I expect him to be pushed for the starting position, a low end 2RB at best

23. Edgerrin James - Tim Hightower may take his job by the middle of the season

24. Rudi Johnson - He is still a solid low end 2RB

25. Jonathan Stewart - This kid has talent and will push for the starting job if not take it

26. Lendale White - He is good but they don't score enough to make him more then a low 2RB

27. Felix Jones - If he was the starter I would have him in the top 15, a lot of upside here

28. Chester Taylor - To bad he is the number 2 because he has the line and the talent

29. Matt Forte - Terrible line, terrible offense, nough said

30. Maurice Morris - I think he holds off Jones and is a good low end 2RB

Players to watch - Kenny Watson (CIN), Leon Washington (NYJ), Steve Slaton (HOU)

Defensive Rankings

21. Oakland
22. San Francisco

The rest of the teams are all a risk and I would only suggest using them on a bye week. Remember not to pick a defense to early. You are much better off going after a 3WR with some upside or maybe even a sleeper who you have an eye on. If your gut feeling on somebody is there then go with it. With defenses this year you have 2 or 3 really good teams and then the next 5-10 teams down are not going to be far enough apart in points to justify taking them early. If you want a top defense you will have to grab them between rounds 4 and 6 depending on who is in your league. If you can wait till the 8-11th rounds to get your defense you will have a more solid team and be better prepared for injuries which we all know happen often in the NFL.
Jerricho Cotchery - Word out of N.Y. is that Mr. Cotchery is quickly becoming the favorite target of Brett Farve and has a good chance to produce more then Laveranues Coles as the Jets top receiver this year. This was also evident in the last preseason game. If the Jets didn't make some stupid mistakes, Cotchery would have had another 2 touchdowns. Last season Cotchery played 15 games, had 82 receptions for 1130 yards and averaged 13.8 yards a catch but only 2 TD's. Coles played 12 games, had 55 receptions for 646 yards and averaged 11.7 yards a catch with 6 total TD's. Cotchery is bigger at 6-0 / 207 pounds when compared to the 5-11 / 193 pound Coles. Cotchery is also 5 years younger at only 25. In his 5th NFL season expect Cotchery to do big things and solidify himself as a star WR. I would put him as a solid 2WR and would look to draft him before a high cost TE. His size will allow him to get open and Farve will have time to get him the ball thanks to the improvements the Jets made to the offensive line this year. Coles has also been known to have an attitude problem and this has been no different in the preseason. Cotchery has all the skills needed, a hall of fame QB, a good o-line and the best city in the world to make his 5th season in the league a standout one.
-Sleepers of the day

Felix Jones - If you don't have HBO or you live in a hole you should know this guy is going to be a machine. The questions is when? Yes I know he is behind Barber but a guy with his talent will not sit on the bench. I expect him to get his fair share of carries and I expect he will break a few of these for touches. If he does this or if Barber goes down watch out. The cowboys have a great o-line and and great QB, if you can pick up Felix later in the draft he could come down as a total steal. Also remember to draft him as a backup if you also have Barber. In keeper leagues his value is even greater. Somebody will draft him so don't wait around forever. This guy will not be on the waiver wire.

Tony Scheffler - In his last 7 games Scheffler scored 3 Touchdowns. He had 5 on the season. A. Gates had 9, D. Clark had 11, K. Winslow had 5. What does this mean. It means you can afford to pass on a top TE and wait for a guy like Tony to drop down to you. He has the skills, the body and Jay Cutler is coming around which will only help him improve. Besides Brandon Marshall the broncos are hurting at WR and Tony looks to be the 2nd option in the passing game and the top red zone option. With the way the Broncos love to run the QB, Tony will be sitting there open more then a handful of time this season. He may not get a lot of yards, he averages around 50 a games however he is good for a touchdown about every other week and will get you enough points every week that the position wont kill your team. However if your 3WR has a bad week it will affect your team. If you can grab a better 3WR or even a 3RB before a TE and grab him late it may be the difference in you winning your league over time. Unless you really love Gates, Winslow or Clark , wait around and pick up Tony near the 8th or 9th round. Don't worry he will still be there. Another good option with similar stats is Owen Daniels from Houston. The one TE I would grab early would be Jason Witten. He is a hard worker on a great team and he will get the touchdowns that may propel him to a worthy high draft pick. Just be careful!
